Overview
The Developmental Profile – Third Edition (DP-3; Alpern, 2007) is a norm-referenced developmental screening instrument that is administered as a structured parent interview to determine the child’s present level of functioning; administration as a parent/caregiver checklist is an option when a direct interview is not feasible. It is designed for use to assess children from birth through 12 years, 11 months. The DP-3 inventories 180 skills and is designed to assess a child’s development on five scales: Physical, Adaptive Behavior, Social-Emotional, Cognitive, and Communication. A General Development Score may also be obtained when all five scales are administered. The DP-3 is particularly useful for children with severe disabilities who may not respond to formal evaluation procedures and measures. The DP-3 is available in Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, and Spanish. The test developer notes that the DP-3 can be administered to groups of children when screening for potential problem identification is the objective.
